“Sway” for the U.S. Presidential ElectionsThis is a pivotal election. It will affect the lives of everyone, not least young adults who will have to live with the long-term consequences. Today approximately 69.2 million Millennials (adults ages 18-35) in the U.S. are of voting-age, but in 2012 only 46% claimed they voted. In 2008 only 50% turned out. This is a significant no show. Why?
Today some of the most far-reaching political decisions of our age are being made without our say so or knowledge. Most of us don’t believe we have much impact, or that our opinions fit neatly into the boxes politicians present us. We neither think we can effect politics nor that it represents us.
This needs to radically change. To do so, we believe those most impacted by an issue should have a bigger voice in its outcome. Unaffordable housing, lack of jobs, security, the environment – these are the issues that will affect our future. So what does the next generation think? Sway is the app that gives more influence to the passionate. The more you engage in an issue – reading the articles, voicing your opinion, fueling the debate – the greater your sway over the vote's outcome.
By demonstrating how those most impacted would vote, we believe we can persuade others and transform politics for the better.
We're launching this experiment for the US elections. Get involved, make a difference, use your Sway.
